Learning about the UK Parliament

In June, we were joined by Kelly from UK Parliament gave an assembly about our electoral system. Pupils learned about constituencies, what an MP is and the voting system. They explored the roles of the House of Commons and the House of Lords. They particularly enjoyed creating their own name as a Baroness or Lord and the role play involved with creating a new law. Lots of ‘ayes’ and one ‘no’ could be heard when a Bill for a four day school week was proposed. Watch this space…

LEGO Discovery Workshop

In June, Mr Walker and Miss Hughes took a group of children from Year 1 to Year 6 to a LEGO Discovery session at Norwich City FC.

The children used digital instructions and touchscreen Chromebooks to build LEGO sets: either a campsite or a mini-golf course.

They then used coding to program their sets with movement sensors, light sensors and sound effects. What a great experience it was!

In May 2024, children from Saxlingham and Preston enjoyed a half-day at Bungay and Waveney Valley Golf Club.  The festival introduced the children to the sport of golf, and they enjoyed participating in a range of games and challenges which honed their golfing skills.  Many thanks to Miss Walker, Mrs Newson and Mr Walker for taking the children.

To The Moon and Back - Norwich Science Festival

As part of the Norwich Science festival 2024, Saxlingham Primary School welcomed Ben Langley, who performed the play ‘To the Moon and Back.’  An awful lot of space-related learning took place through the play and workshops that followed.  It was great that Grasshopper Class were able to share this learning experience.

Links with other schools

We have made links with Xet̓ólacw Community School, a pre-K to Grade 12 facility in Mount Currie, British Columbia, Canada.  The school provides a positive and empowering learning environment where Líl̓wat culture, language and values are taught and celebrated alongside the academic curriculum.

Dragonfly Class have been exchanging letters with the children in Grade 6.  We are really excited to be able to share information about our community in Tasburgh and to be able to find out about living in a contrasting community in a very different part of the world.
