In January 2026, we have introduced a school dog to our Federation community.
Maisie is a 5-year-old cockapoo, and she belongs to our Headteacher, Mr Walker. She is very well trained and enjoys spending time in both schools with our staff and children.
A school dog can provide a wide range of emotional, social, and educational benefits for pupils. Research and experiences from many educational settings show that school dogs can help reduce anxiety, promote positive behaviour, encourage reluctant readers, and create a calming atmosphere that supports learning.
By integrating the dog thoughtfully into daily school life, we are seeking to enhance the nurturing environment at the Tas Valley Federation.
